With the cost of living increasing and the mounting pressure put on UK citizens there is little wonder why so many housholds are debt-slaved.  With no signs of the pressure easing it was recently reported by the Centre of Social Jutice that the average houshold now owes an average of £54,000- an increase from £29,000 only 10 years ago!!

DEBT & SAVINGS BLOG:

Household debt continues to rise

14 Jan 2014
Household debt has doubled in the last decade as rising numbers of families fall into a borrowing “trap”, an influential think tank warns.
British households now owe an average of £54,000, an increase from £29,000 a decade ago, according to a report by the Centre for Social Justice.
The study, published on Wednesday, found that more than 5,000 people are being made homeless each year because of rent or mortgage debts.
It said the rising cost of energy bills was among factors contributing to an “explosion” of debt among poorer households, with millions now at “crisis point”.
The think tank, founded by Iain Duncan Smith, the Work and Pensions Secretary, warned that despite signs of economic recovery, total personal debt, currently at £1.43 trillion had reached “unsustainable” levels.
